Best Snorkeling Spots in Cancun
1 – Punta Nizuc
Punta Nizuc, in the National Marine Park, near a remote beach in the busy Zona Hotelera (hotel zone), is one of the most convenient and nearby snorkeling locations in Cancun.
This protected area is home to many marine life, including colorful fish, rays, sea turtles, and much more. It is a well-known place for scuba diving and snorkeling. Punta Nizuc is a great site to snorkel, whether you’re a novice or an expert. Because of its peaceful, clean, and shallow (maximum depth of 4 meters) seas year-round.
Moreover, the MUSA Underwater Museum features an exhibit within this conveniently situated underwater paradise. MUSA is a unique museum showcasing over 500 life-size sculptures strategically placed on the seabed to encourage coral growth and provide an incredible snorkeling experience.
It’s an eerie location worth a visit, with lounge room setups of a guy watching TV, sunken VW Beetles, and hundreds of human figures (called The Silent Evolution). The Punta Nizuc area alone houses 33 sculptures, and due to their shallow depth. They offer an ideal opportunity for snorkeling.
You can arrange a snorkeling cruise from practically any Cancun location to Punta Nizuc. During these full-day or half-day tours, there are regular stops at other nearby snorkeling sites. Including Isla Mujeres – the primary location of most MUSA sculptures.
2 – Radio Pirata Reef
One of the best-kept snorkeling secrets in Cancun is Radio Pirata, which is within striking distance of the beachfront of Puerto Morelos along with Rodman (see #130) and Cerebros.

Book a trip with one of the several local businesses that provide snorkeling and scuba diving tours to the region to get to the reef. You may need to reserve in advance since this is a smaller, unusual site to guarantee a position on your chosen tour.
4 – Playa Akumal
Playa Akumal, the main attraction of Akumal, is understandably popular among tourists who like the outdoors and animals. Thanks to its smooth sands and turtle-frequented coastline.
